Prepare to Move
Here are just a few suggestions for a more cost-effective move:
- Please use good firm boxes when you pack your belongings. All boxes should be securely taped on top and bottom to allow safe handling and loading. Please use 2 inch plastic packing tape - - not masking tape. Bags, baskets and open containers will create an unstable load in our truck – square boxes are much preferred.
- If possible, we suggest that you take apart bed frames, remove mirrors from dressers, take shelves out of bookcases and remove loose parts such as finials, back plates, or other removable trim. Disassembly that you handle before the movers arrive will always save you money. If you are unable to perform this task, we can disassemble and reassemble these items for you.
- Our movers will move furniture, boxes and some un-packed miscellaneous items (non-fragile). Generally we cannot move loose items that have not been packed due to insurance regulations.
- To avoid time-consuming and costly packing, we advise that you move the following unpacked items yourself: Pictures, artwork, table lamps, stereo and computer equipment and small glass tops or small pieces of marble. Separate transport of these uninsured items will avoid damage and provide for a well packed moving van.
- Clothing and linens may be left in small or medium sized dressers and chests. However, large dressers should always be empty of contents to allow for smoother and easier handling – especially on stairways, around corners, or in tight spaces.
- Please always empty contents from desks, end tables, night stands, china cabinets and buffets. These pieces of furniture may have to be carried sideways through doorways or even padded and placed upside down on top of another piece in the truck to create a tighter load.
- The final cost of your move is based on the time it takes us to complete your move. Therefore, anything that you can do prior to moving day to make your move quicker and easier will save you money.
